Nineteen weddings here, and five more booked
We have produced 19 events at The Bradford with 5 more on the calendar. Sixteen acres in New Hill, near Jordan Lake, serving Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill.
One useful thing to know up front: The Bradford is not a restored historic property. It was purpose-built in 2013 and opened for events in August 2014, designed to look old. The venue says so itself. For an AV company that is good news — modern construction means modern electrical service and no historic-fabric restrictions on what can be moved or hung, which is rarely true of a building that looks like this one.
The spaces
Cora Hall
A bright ballroom with high ceilings and large windows. Bright and glassy is lovely at 5pm and a challenge at 9pm: a lot of hard surface, a lot of daylight early, and a complete change of character after dark. We plan lighting for both halves of the evening rather than setting a look at load-in and leaving it.
The Daugherty Ballroom
The larger of the two, used for receptions and as the rain plan. If your ceremony is outdoors, this is where it goes if the weather turns, and that means the room has to be capable of both jobs on an hour’s notice. We build the rain plan rather than talking about it.
The House, the terrace and the gardens
A main house used for smaller gatherings, an open-air stone terrace with market lights, front and side gardens, and a back field. Directories count four garden ceremony locations. A stone terrace is a good surface to work on; open gardens and the back field are the ones where power and coverage need answering in advance.
Two things that change the quote
A professional planner or day-of coordinator is required
The Bradford is explicit about this in its own material: the included venue coordinator will not direct your wedding, and you are required to hire a professional planner or day-of coordinator. That is a genuine plus from where we sit. Someone owns the timeline, the vendor call times are real, and we are not reconstructing the running order at 4pm.
The included inventory is smaller than the capacity
The venue includes twelve 60-inch rounds, ten six-foot banquet tables, ten eight-foot banquet tables and 120 mahogany folding chairs. Directories put the venue’s capacity at 225 to 250. If your guest count is anywhere near that, a meaningful amount of seating, and any staging or cocktail furniture, is coming from a rental company. Build that into the budget early rather than finding it in month nine.
What we plan around
The Bradford does not publish an event end time, a music cut-off, a load-in window or anything about power at the gardens and the back field. We do not invent those. We ask the venue directly for each booking, and we would rather have a short email exchange in month two than a surprise in month eleven.
One specific thing we check every time: at least one directory describes the ceremony lawn as astroturf, which if true means no stakes and no ground spikes — every uplight and every stand is weighted or base-mounted instead. We have not been able to confirm it from the venue, so we confirm it per booking rather than printing it as fact here.
- DJ and MC running the night
- Garden or terrace ceremony audio, on battery where power is a distance from the site
- A built rain plan for the Daugherty Ballroom, not a verbal one
- Uplighting for a room with a lot of glass in it
- Dance floor lighting programmed to the set
- Monograms, cold sparks and photobooths from our enhancements list, subject to venue approval
Questions we get about The Bradford
Do you charge travel to New Hill?
Yes, a travel line. The Bradford is about ninety minutes from our Greensboro warehouse, out past Chapel Hill toward Jordan Lake. It is on the quote up front.
Is The Bradford a historic building?
No, and the venue is upfront about it — it was custom-built in 2013 and opened in 2014, designed to look historic. From our side that is an advantage: modern electrical, no restrictions from historic fabric, and a building designed for events rather than adapted into one.
How many guests does it hold?
Directories say 225 to 250 and they do not agree. Confirm it with the venue for your date. What we would flag is that the included inventory is 120 chairs, so a guest count above that means rentals.
Is a coordinator required?
Yes. The venue’s own material says the included venue coordinator will not direct your wedding and that you must hire a professional planner or day-of coordinator. Plan for it in the budget.
What time does music have to end?
The Bradford does not publish a cut-off, so we ask them for each booking rather than assume. It is the first question we send, because it decides where the last dance lands.
Can you handle a ceremony outside with the reception inside?
That is the normal shape of a day here, and so is the rain plan into the Daugherty Ballroom. We build both rather than leaving the wet-weather version as a conversation.
