The day-before load-in is the thing
We have produced 30 events at Oakhaven since October 2020. The most useful fact about this venue, from our side, is a scheduling one.
Oakhaven permits Friday access for setup and rehearsal, and the entire estate is reserved exclusively for Saturday weddings. That combination is rarer than it sounds and it is genuinely valuable: it means a full lighting design can be built and focused the day before rather than crammed into a few hours on the morning, and it means nothing is being rushed while you are getting ready.
When a venue gives us that, the same budget buys a noticeably better-looking room. It is worth factoring into what you spend here.
The spaces
The Grand Dutch Barn
The reception space, up to 200, with floor-to-ceiling reclaimed wood and a stone fireplace. Reclaimed timber absorbs considerably better than brick or concrete, which makes this a kinder room acoustically than most barn venues its size. It also takes light beautifully, because there is real texture for it to land on.
The oak
The signature ceremony site — antique church pews under the oak tree. Outdoors, well away from power, and the reason we bring battery systems here as standard. The setting does most of the work; our job is making sure the vows are audible from the back pew without visible equipment ruining the picture.
The Manor Gardens and the terrace
Fountain, lawn, fire pit, open-air kitchen and a wrought iron gazebo on the barn terrace. Cocktails usually live out here, which means a small separate system rather than bleeding the main room outside.
The English Manor and the cottages
Getting-ready spaces and overnight accommodation. They change the shape of the day rather than the technical plan, but a guest list that is staying over behaves differently at the end of the night.
What the venue requires
- Event insurance is required, and outside vendors must carry proper licensing and insurance. We produce a certificate of insurance as a matter of course.
- A professional day-of coordinator is required for Grand Dutch Barn receptions.
- Alcohol runs through a one-day licence and a licensed bartending service.
- Oakhaven offers its own draping and lighting. We are happy to work alongside whatever the venue is providing rather than duplicating it, and we will tell you plainly when something you are considering is already covered.
Questions we get about Oakhaven
Do you actually load in on the Friday?
When the schedule allows it and the venue confirms it, yes, and it is the main reason events here look as good as they do. Focusing a lighting design in an empty room the day before beats building it in four hours on the morning every time.
Is there power at the oak ceremony site?
Not usefully, which is why we run it on battery. No cables across the lawn, no generator noise behind the vows, and nothing visible in the photographs.
Will you provide a certificate of insurance?
Yes, without being chased. Oakhaven requires vendors to carry licensing and insurance and we meet that as standard.
The venue offers lighting too. Do we need you for that?
Not necessarily, and we will not pretend otherwise. If Oakhaven’s package covers what you want, use it. Where we tend to add something is a full design across the barn, the terrace and the ceremony together, and live-run changes through the night rather than static looks.
Do you charge travel to Pelham?
Usually a small travel line, quoted upfront. It is about forty minutes from our warehouse.
How does the reclaimed wood affect the sound?
Favourably. Timber absorbs where brick and concrete reflect, so the Grand Dutch Barn is more forgiving than most rooms its size. It means we can spend less of the budget solving the room and more of it on what guests notice.
