Two venues, 350 acres apart

We have produced 22 events at Luna’s Trail with 5 more booked. The first thing to understand about this property is that it is not one venue. The Luna’s Trail Venue and the Big Creek Lodge sit at opposite ends of a 350-acre farm, and the venue says so itself.

If your day uses both — ceremony at one end, reception at the other, or a welcome party at the Lodge and a wedding at the Venue — that is not a walk between rooms. It is a vehicle move for crew and gear, and it has to be in the timeline rather than discovered on the day. We ask which spaces you have booked before we quote, because the answer changes both the crew size and the schedule.

It is about forty-five minutes from Winston-Salem, up in Stokes County with views toward Pilot Mountain, Hanging Rock and the Sauratowns.

The Luna’s Trail Venue

The rustic one: lakeside, with meadow and pond views, tin ceilings, stained glass and bi-fold glass doors opening onto a covered pergola strung with café lights. Three fireplaces, a fire pit on the back patio, four bathrooms, a caterer’s kitchen, heating and air throughout.

A word about tin and glass. Tin ceilings are one of the hardest, most reflective surfaces a room can have, and stained glass and bi-fold doors add more of the same. This is a bright, live room. The practical consequence is that a system set the way you would set it in a carpeted hotel ballroom will sound harsh and washy here. We aim speakers down at guests rather than across at hard surfaces, keep the level honest, and use the drapery and soft goods that are in the room rather than ignoring them.

The venue lists its own audio-visual equipment, a portable stage and a dance floor as included. That is genuinely useful and we will tell you honestly where it is enough. What we have not been able to get is a published specification for that system, so we ask what it actually is for each booking rather than guessing. For background music and a single microphone it may well do the job. For a reception with toasts and a dance floor in a tin-ceilinged room, it usually does not.

The Big Creek Lodge

The modern farmhouse end of the property: mountain views, a full-service on-site restaurant and bar, a lounge, a ceremony room with natural light and stone, nine upstairs bedrooms each with a private deck, six bathrooms, and a large covered porch with fire tables and ceiling fans.

The covered porch is where most of the audio thinking goes. Ceiling fans and an open side mean it behaves as an outdoor space rather than a room, and a system set for the lounge will not carry out there. If the porch is part of your evening, it gets its own small zone.

Ceremony sites and the rest of the property

There are several, with rain backups: sites near Hanging Rock, the creek, the back patio, the pond, a pergola, and a covered Lakehouse building with restrooms that is used for ceremonies in its own right. They are not interchangeable from our side — each is a different distance from power and a different acoustic environment. For the ones furthest from a socket we bring battery systems rather than running cable across a farm.

There is also an aerial adventure course, hiking and fishing trails, paddleboards and canoes on the pond, farm animals, and on-site lodging for up to about eighty-four guests across the Lodge and four cabins. Practically, that means a lot of Luna’s Trail weddings are weekends rather than days, and the schedule can be built with an earlier, calmer load-in than most venues allow.

What we bring

  • DJ and MC, with the timeline built around whichever end of the property you are using
  • Ceremony audio sized to the specific site you have chosen, on battery where power is a distance away
  • A separate zone for the pergola, the covered porch or the patio
  • Uplighting that works with café lights and stained glass rather than against them
  • Dance floor lighting programmed to the set
  • Monograms, cold sparks and photobooths from our enhancements list, subject to venue approval

Questions we get about Luna’s Trail Farm and Event Center

Do you charge travel to Westfield?

Usually a modest travel line. It is about an hour and fifteen from our Greensboro warehouse, north past Winston-Salem. It goes on the quote up front.

The venue says AV is included. Do we still need you?

Sometimes not, and we will say so. What is included has not been published in any detail, so we ask the venue what the system actually is for your date. If it covers a small ceremony and background music, that may be all you need. A reception with toasts and dancing in a tin-ceilinged room is a different requirement.

We are using the Venue and the Lodge on the same weekend. Is that a problem?

Not a problem, but it is a real logistics job because they are at opposite ends of 350 acres. It usually means either two setups or a scheduled move with vehicles. We price it that way rather than pretending it is a short walk.

Which ceremony site is easiest for audio?

The ones nearest power and nearest a road. The pergola and the covered Lakehouse are straightforward; the creek and the further mountain-view sites are battery jobs. Tell us which you have chosen and we will design for that one.

Can we bring our own alcohol?

That is the venue’s rule and it differs between their two spaces, so check your own contract. Our understanding is that the Luna’s Trail Venue allows you to bring beer and wine for a fee while hard liquor comes from the venue, and the Big Creek Lodge provides all alcohol. Confirm it with them rather than with us.

Can you load in the day before?

Often, because a lot of Luna’s Trail weddings run as weekends with guests staying on site. It depends on what else is booked. We will ask the venue rather than assume.
