Our home-town resort

Grandover is about fifteen minutes from our Greensboro warehouse, and we have produced 29 events there with 2 more on the calendar. It is the largest room we work in on a regular basis and it is the one venue on our list where a wedding and a 700-person general session are equally likely.

Because it is close, there is no travel line on the quote and no compressed load-in. We can be on site early, run a proper sound check in a 13,000 square foot room, and still be clear before guests arrive.

The ballrooms, and what each one actually needs

Grandville Ballroom — 13,000 sq ft, 16 ft ceilings

Published at 130 by 100 feet with sixteen-foot ceilings, and it divides into four sections of roughly 3,000 square feet each. Grandover’s own wedding pages put it at 200 to 500 guests for a reception. A room this size is a coverage problem long before it is a power problem. A single system aimed down the middle gets louder without getting clearer, and the back tables end up hearing the reverberation rather than the vocal. We design for even coverage wall to wall and keep the level sane, which is also what keeps speeches intelligible.

Sixteen feet of height is generous for a hotel ballroom and it is what makes real design lighting worth doing here — uplights have something to actually climb, and gobo or texture work reads instead of getting lost.

Grandview Ballroom — 4,386 sq ft, 14 ft ceilings

Up to about 175 guests, with a private second-story terrace looking out over the lawn and the golf course. The terrace is the interesting part from our side: it is a natural cocktail zone that needs its own small system, and it is the one place at Grandover where a second audio zone earns its keep rather than being an upsell.

Carlisle Ballroom — 4,275 sq ft, 15 ft ceilings

Published at 75 by 57 feet and up to 400 for a reception. A well-proportioned room, and the easiest of the three to get right.

The Griffin Room

Up to about 150, with cathedral ceilings, timber beams, a double-sided stone fireplace and a wall of windows onto the golf course. Beautiful, and acoustically the liveliest space on the property: hard glass on one side and a lot of height. It wants a tighter, better-aimed system and less of it, not more.

Outdoors: the Lawn and the Grassy Knoll

The Grandover Lawn is a bermuda green with a brick paver perimeter and two white gazebos, overlooking the East course. That paver edge is genuinely useful — it gives us hard standing for speaker stands and a control position that is not sinking into turf. The Grassy Knoll is the smaller, more intimate alternative.

Grandover states its outdoor spaces are usable about eight months of the year. For anything outside that window, or for any date where weather is a coin flip, we plan the ceremony and the indoor backup as two setups rather than one hopeful one, and we agree the call time with your coordinator in advance instead of improvising at 2pm.

On the resort’s in-house AV

Grandover has its own AV department and its own equipment, and the standard wedding package includes a sound system with a wireless microphone. We will say plainly what that means: for a small ceremony with one officiant mic, the house system may be all you need, and we are not going to pretend otherwise.

Where we earn our place is everything past that — a DJ and MC actually running the night, dance floor lighting programmed to the set rather than left cycling, uplighting and drape across a 13,000 square foot room, LED wall or projection for a general session, and staging. If you are bringing us in alongside the resort’s AV, ask them early whether an outside vendor or patch fee applies, because that is the resort’s policy and not something we control. We would rather you know the number before you book than after.

Corporate work at Grandover

Forty-five thousand square feet of meeting space across twenty-two rooms, 244 guest rooms, a conference center and fifteen minutes from PTI. It is the Triad’s default choice for a multi-day conference, and the Grandville divides cleanly into breakouts off a main general session.

Questions we get about Grandover Resort & Spa

Can we use you if Grandover has its own AV team?

In our experience yes, and we have done it 29 times. Confirm it with your resort contact when you sign, and ask specifically whether an outside vendor fee or a patch fee applies. That is the resort’s call. We will work alongside their team rather than around them.

Do you charge travel to Grandover?

No. It is about fifteen minutes from our Greensboro warehouse and well inside the area we cover without a travel line.

Is the house sound system enough for our wedding?

For a short ceremony with one microphone, sometimes. For a reception with toasts, a dance floor and a room the size of the Grandville, no. We will tell you which situation you are in rather than quoting you a full rig by reflex.

How many uplights does the Grandville Ballroom take?

It depends on whether you have taken the full room or a section of it, and on whether you want the perimeter washed or specific features picked out. Sixteen-foot ceilings mean each fixture does more work than it would in a low room. We quote from the actual floor plan, not from a per-guest formula.

Can you do the ceremony on the Lawn and the reception inside?

Routinely. It means a separate ceremony system, a strike during cocktails and a reset indoors. We plan the timing for it rather than rushing it, and we agree the weather call with your coordinator ahead of the day.

Do you work Grandover for corporate conferences as well as weddings?

Yes, and that is a meaningful share of what we do there. Twenty-two meeting rooms and a ballroom that subdivides make it the Triad’s most common multi-day conference venue, and we handle general session, breakouts, screens, staging and drape.
