Twenty minutes from our warehouse, and we are here constantly
We have produced 49 events at Covington Gardens since May 2023 and hold 27 more on the calendar. It is close to home, which means no travel line on your quote and enough slack in the schedule to load in properly.
A Victorian house on seven acres, a tented garden pavilion, a pond with a fountain and a meadow. It is one of the prettiest properties we work in, and it has two specific technical characteristics worth knowing about before you plan the night.
Two things that shape the plan here
The reception space is a tent
The Garden Pavilion is around 4,000 square feet under white tent cover. Tented spaces are lovely and they are not buildings: power is not where it would be in a hall, there is nothing overhead rated to hang from, and the acoustic is open rather than contained. We bring our own distribution on every job here and we plan lighting as ground-supported or tent-structure-appropriate rather than assuming rigging points.
The ceremony is next to a fountain
Carter Pond with its fountain is the published ceremony location, and running water is a real and constantly underestimated audio problem. It sits right in the frequency range of a human voice and it never stops. The answer is microphone choice and placement rather than turning the system up, and it is the sort of thing you only get right if you have stood there before. We have, forty-nine times.
The rules worth knowing
- Event end times are published: 11:00pm Friday and Saturday, 10:00pm Sundays and weekdays. We build the last hour around whichever applies to you.
- A month-of coordinator is required by the venue. That is a good thing from our side, because it means someone owns the timeline.
- The venue handles all bar service and outside alcohol is not permitted.
- Outside vendors are otherwise welcome, and there is a preferred list.
Covington has also published plans for a new enclosed hall. If that is built by the time of your event it changes the power and rigging picture completely, so tell us your date and we will check where construction actually stands rather than planning around a brochure.
What we usually do here
- DJ and MC for the pavilion, with the set built to the venue’s end time
- Ceremony audio at Carter Pond, designed around the fountain
- Our own power distribution, because the pavilion is tented
- Uplighting on the tent and the garden, which changes this property more than anywhere else we work
- Cocktail audio for The Meadow when the timeline calls for it
- Monograms, photobooths and the rest of the enhancements list
Questions we get about Covington Gardens
Does the fountain really affect the ceremony audio?
Yes, more than people expect. Moving water sits in the same frequency range as speech and it does not stop for the vows. The fix is the right microphone in the right position, not more volume. It is the single thing we would tell a couple to spend on at this venue.
Is there enough power in the tented pavilion?
We bring our own distribution on every job here rather than relying on what is available, and for larger builds we can bring quiet generators. Tell us what you want in the room and we will tell you what it takes to feed it.
Can you hang lighting in the tent?
Not the way we would in a building. Tent structures are not rigging points. We work ground-supported or with structure-appropriate solutions, and we design to that from the start rather than discovering it on the day.
Do you charge travel to Covington Gardens?
No. Pleasant Garden is about twenty minutes from our warehouse.
What time does the music have to stop?
11:00pm on Friday and Saturday, 10:00pm on Sundays and weekdays, per the venue. We build the run of show around it so the end of the night lands rather than getting cut off.
Do you work with the coordinator the venue requires?
Constantly, and we prefer it. A coordinator who owns the timeline makes our job easier and your night smoother. We will talk to them directly rather than routing everything through you.
