Twenty-five minutes away, and built for live music

We have produced 19 events at Adaumont Farm. It is about twenty-five minutes from our Greensboro warehouse — no travel line, and enough slack to load in properly — and it is the venue on our list best set up for a live band.

Adaumont publishes its own floor plan, which almost no venue does. The barn ballroom is 190 feet by 100 feet, there is a built-in stage at 15.5 by 19.5 feet, and there is a private band and green room. Most barn venues ask a band to set up on the dance floor and change in a car. This one does not.

A 190-foot room is a coverage problem

Nineteen thousand square feet of floor plate is a very large room by regional standards, and the venue describes the whole barn as around 25,000 square feet including the mezzanine and wrap-around porches. Rooms that long do not get solved by turning a system up. The far end simply arrives late and blurred.

There is a polished concrete floor, which is as hard and reflective as a floor gets. Working in our favour is the drapery Adaumont is known for — the fabric on those walls is doing real acoustic absorption, and it is one reason this room sounds better than its dimensions suggest. We design for even coverage from the stage to the back of the room and let the drape do its job, rather than pushing level from the front.

There is HVAC in the barn, plus outdoor fans and heaters, and over 200 parking spaces. Ceiling height is not published, which matters for anything hung, so we confirm it with the venue rather than quoting a rig that may not fit.

The Pergola, the lake and the ceremony

The Pergola is a stone patio under a 15-foot structure, looking out over a 30-acre lake and pasture, with white drapes and lighting. Stone underfoot is a gift — stable footing for stands, no cable sinking into grass, and a clean control position.

Ceremonies also happen inside the barn, just outside the main doors, and at a lakeside arbor. The lakeside sites are the ones that raise the power question, and it is the question we ask first. Open water and open pasture give you nothing to reflect off, so we use lavaliers and distributed speakers rather than a single pair at the arbor.

Beyond that: hundreds of acres of working farm, a covered bridge, peacocks, a hunting lodge across the pond used as a groom’s suite, and a shooting course. Capacity lands around 300 seated, with standing figures quoted as high as 600 depending on the source.

What a band actually needs here

If you are booking live music, this is the page section that matters. A stage that size takes a full band without improvisation. What the venue does not supply is the production around it, and that is the part that decides whether a band sounds like a band or like noise in a shed:

  • Front-of-house system sized for a 190-foot room, not a corner of one
  • Monitors or in-ear support so the band can hear each other over a concrete floor
  • Enough microphones and DI inputs for the actual line-up, agreed from their tech rider rather than guessed
  • Stage lighting, because a dark band is a quiet band
  • Power distribution to the stage that is not shared with the caterer
  • A DJ to cover the sets and the dancing either side — see DJ Fusion for live musicians layered over a DJ set

The rules worth knowing

  • A day-of coordinator or planner is required, and must come from the venue’s preferred list.
  • Day-of special event insurance is required. All vendors must be licensed and insured — we carry ours as a matter of course and will send a certificate to anyone who asks.
  • Catering and alcohol may be brought in, with licensed and insured vendors.
  • Listings describe exclusive use of the property from 9:00am to midnight and amplified music permitted indoors and outdoors. Both are strong points in Adaumont’s favour, and both come from directory listings rather than the venue’s own site, so we confirm them for each booking rather than printing them as gospel.

Questions we get about Adaumont Farm

Do you charge travel to Adaumont Farm?

No. Trinity is about twenty-five minutes from our Greensboro warehouse and well inside the area we cover without a travel line.

We are having a band. What do you actually do?

Everything around the band. Front-of-house system, monitors, microphones and inputs off their rider, stage lighting, and power to the stage. Then a DJ covering the sets and the rest of the night. We talk to the band directly rather than passing messages through you.

Is the barn too big for our guest count?

It can be, and the honest answer is that a 190-foot room with 120 guests in it needs design rather than volume. Drape, lighting and a considered floor plan make a large room feel intimate. We would rather tell you that than quote you a bigger PA.

Can we have amplified music outdoors at the Pergola?

Listings say yes, indoors and outdoors, and that matches our experience. We still confirm it with the venue for each booking, because it is not published on their own site.

Is there power at the lakeside ceremony site?

We ask for every booking rather than assume. Where it is not close, we use battery systems, which is cleaner than running a long cable across pasture and removes a hazard from your aisle.

Do you need a coordinator here?

The venue requires one from their preferred list, so that is settled for you. It helps us: someone owns the timeline and we are not inventing it on the day.
