What DJ Fusion actually is
DJ Fusion is a live DJ set with real musicians playing over the top of it. Not a band that stops between sets. Not a DJ with a backing track. One continuous performance where the mix never drops and the instruments come in and out of it live.
Your DJ is still running the night — reading the floor, choosing what comes next, handling the announcements. The musicians improvise on top of whatever he plays. A saxophone line rides a house record. A percussionist locks into the beat of a song nobody planned. A violin takes the top line of a track everybody knows and turns it into something nobody has heard before.
Guests who have been to fifty weddings have not seen this one.
Who plays
- Saxophone — the one most couples start with, and the one guests film
- Percussion — congas and hand percussion layered live over the mix
- Violin — carries melody lines, and doubles beautifully for a ceremony
- Drums — a live kit on top of the track, for the biggest rooms
Book one, or book several. They are instrumentalists, not a vocal act — the vocals stay with the record, which is exactly why the transition between a DJ set and a live moment is seamless instead of jarring.

Why couples choose it over a band
A live band is a wonderful thing and it comes with three real constraints: the setlist is finite, the band takes breaks, and twelve people cost what twelve people cost.
DJ Fusion removes all three.
- Every song ever recorded is on the table. Your grandmother’s first-dance song and the record that came out last month, back to back, in the same set.
- The music never stops. No set breaks, no dead air while a band reloads, no dance floor emptying out and never refilling.
- You scale it. One musician for the cocktail hour, or the full group for open dancing. You are not paying for a horn section during dinner.
What you keep is the part that actually matters: the moment a live instrument enters a song and the whole room turns to look.
Where it fits in your day
Ceremony
Violin for the processional and the recessional, run through our battery-powered ceremony system so it carries outdoors without a power drop anywhere on the property.
Cocktail hour
This is where saxophone earns its money. Guests are standing, talking, holding a drink, and a live horn over a relaxed set changes the temperature of the room immediately.
Grand entrance
Live percussion under your entrance track. It is the single most-filmed thirty seconds of the night.
Open dancing
The full effect. Sax and percussion trading over an open-format set, building the room the way a club does, with your DJ steering the whole thing.

How to add DJ Fusion to your wedding
DJ Fusion is added on top of your headline DJ, so you start the same way any Fusion wedding starts: pick your date, pick your DJ, and tell us which moments you want live musicians in.
Because musicians are booked per event and per instrument, DJ Fusion is quoted individually rather than sold as a fixed package. Tell us your date, your venue and which parts of the day you are imagining, and we will come back with real numbers.
We produce DJ Fusion weddings across North Carolina — Greensboro, Winston-Salem, High Point and Burlington close to home, plus Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, Charlotte, the coast and the mountains — and we travel for destination weddings in the United States and internationally.
What DJ Fusion costs, and what moves the number
We will not print a single price on this page, because a live musician is booked per event and per instrument and a fixed number would be a lie. What we will do is tell you honestly what drives it, so you can work out roughly where you land before you ever speak to us.
What increases it
- How many musicians. One saxophone is the most common booking. Sax plus percussion is the next. A full group is a different number entirely.
- How much of the day they play. A musician for open dancing only is a short call. Ceremony, cocktails and dancing is most of an evening, and it is priced as such.
- Travel. Inside the Triad there is usually no travel line. Raleigh, Charlotte, the coast and the mountains carry one, and it goes on the quote up front.
- Your date. Good musicians are booked well ahead. A Saturday in October is harder to staff than a Friday in February, and late requests cost more because we are pulling someone off another offer.
What does not change it
The DJ side. DJ Fusion is added on top of your headline DJ package, so your DJ, your sound, your lighting and your planning are priced exactly as they would be otherwise. Adding a musician does not quietly re-price the rest of the wedding, and we would tell you if it did.
For context, our wedding packages start at $1,800 and most couples land between $2,500 and $3,500 before enhancements. DJ Fusion sits on top of that. Tell us your date, your venue and which parts of the day you want live, and we will come back with a real number in line items rather than a bundled figure you cannot interrogate.
The musicians, and why not everyone can do this
Putting a saxophone player next to a DJ is easy. Making it sound like one performance rather than two things happening at once is not, and it is the part that decides whether your guests are delighted or politely confused.
Playing over an open-format DJ set is a specific skill and a lot of very good musicians do not have it. There is no chart, no count-in and no fixed key. The DJ may mix out of a record halfway through because the floor told him to, and the player has to hear the change and go with it. A session player used to reading a part will fight that. A player who has done hundreds of these hears the next record coming in the blend and is already on it.
- Our musicians are chosen for improvisation over a live mix, not for a set list
- They are briefed on your must-play list and your do-not-play list, same as your DJ
- They know when not to play — the most common mistake in live-over-DJ is a player who never stops, which turns a feature into wallpaper
- They work to your DJ, not alongside him. One person is running the night.
This is also why we do not treat DJ Fusion as a line item you can bolt on at the last minute without a conversation. We match the player to the DJ and to the room, and that takes a phone call rather than a checkbox.
Corporate events, galas and private parties
Most of this page talks about weddings because that is where most DJ Fusion bookings land. It is not only a wedding product, and for a corporate audience it solves a problem weddings do not have: how to make a room feel like an event rather than a function.
Receptions, galas and fundraisers
A saxophone over a relaxed set during a drinks reception raises the energy of a room without raising the volume, which matters when people are there to talk and, at a fundraiser, to be asked for money. It also gives you a genuine moment when the program ends and the evening turns social.
Product launches, grand openings and brand activations
Live instrumentation reads as production value in a way a playlist does not, and it films well. If there is a reveal, live percussion under it is the cheapest way to make thirty seconds feel significant.
Holiday parties and company celebrations
The same logic as a wedding reception, with a crowd that is harder to move. A live player is often what gets a corporate dance floor started when nothing else has.
We produce these alongside full corporate AV — audio, screens, staging and lighting — so the musicians are part of one production rather than a separate booking you have to coordinate.
What to ask anyone offering DJ-plus-live-musicians
More companies are advertising this than can actually do it, and the gap does not show up until the night. If you are comparing us against someone else, these are the questions worth asking both of us.
- Is the musician improvising, or playing to a rehearsed set? If the answer involves a fixed set list, it is a band booking with a DJ attached, not a fusion set.
- Does the music ever stop? The whole point is a continuous mix. If the musician needs the DJ to stop for a feature, you have bought set breaks with extra steps.
- Who is in charge on the night? There has to be one answer. If the DJ and the musician are each waiting for the other, the energy dies in the gap.
- Can I scale it by part of the day? You should not be paying for a horn player through dinner if you only want them for dancing.
- Have they done it at my venue, or a room like it? A live horn in a tin-roofed barn is a different problem from a horn in a carpeted ballroom, and the answer changes where the player stands.
- Is the musician amplified properly, or into the DJ rig as an afterthought? A live instrument needs its own channel, its own monitoring and its own treatment. Plugged into a spare input, it will sound like a mistake.
We are happy to be asked all six. If a competitor answers them better than we do, book them.
Questions we get about DJ Fusion
How much does DJ Fusion cost?
There is no fixed price, because musicians are booked per event and per instrument. What drives the number is how many musicians, how much of the day they play, travel and your date. Our wedding packages start at $1,800 and most couples land between $2,500 and $3,500 before enhancements; DJ Fusion is quoted on top of that in line items you can see rather than as a bundled figure.
Is this a band?
No, and the difference matters. A band plays a finite set list and takes breaks. DJ Fusion is a continuous DJ set with live instruments playing over it — every song ever recorded is available, the music never stops, and you can scale the musicians up or down by part of the day.
Which instrument should we pick?
Saxophone if you only pick one. It is the one most couples choose, it works across cocktail hour and open dancing, and it is the one guests film. Percussion is the best second addition because it lifts the dance floor. Violin is the one to add if you want it in the ceremony as well.
Can we have a musician for part of the night only?
Yes, and most couples do. Cocktail hour only, or open dancing only, is a normal booking. You are not obliged to pay for a musician standing through dinner.
Do the musicians sing?
No. They are instrumentalists and the vocals stay with the record. That is deliberate — it is exactly why the move between a DJ track and a live moment is seamless rather than jarring.
Will it be too loud?
No louder than the DJ set it sits on. A live instrument gets its own channel and its own treatment rather than being plugged into a spare input, which is what makes it sound like part of the mix instead of something shouting over it. At venues with published sound limits we plan around those the same way we would without a musician.
Can you do this at our venue?
Almost certainly. We produce DJ Fusion across North Carolina and we hold pages for the twenty venues we work most — see venues. The room does change where the player stands and how they are amplified, so tell us the venue early.
Do you travel for destination weddings?
Yes, across the United States and internationally. Travel for the musicians is quoted alongside travel for the DJ team and appears on the quote up front.
Tell us your date and what you are imagining
Send us the date, the venue and which parts of the day you want live musicians in, and we will come back with a real proposal in simple line items. If DJ Fusion is not right for your night, we will say so rather than sell it to you.
